22 Nov How Vision Boards have Proven to be Revolutionary
A vision board is a tool that helps you visualize the goals you want to achieve. It generally consists of a board of any kind on which pictures and quotes representing your dreams are attached.
Creating a visual representation of the future you want and placing it in an area of your home you can see often is a great way of keeping yourself motivated. Most often people keep their boards by their bedsides, behind bedroom doors, or on their workstations. Just pick an area you see every day.
I recently had a team-building session with my Toastmasters club members and we all made vision boards. Here is mine on the header image. It was a very powerful experience because I finally let out into the open those huge dreams that I have been carrying in my heart. I felt comfortable doing so because everyone else was talking about their dreams and I stopped feeling I was crazy to be dreaming so big.

Three reasons why everyone needs a vision board
For some people, the idea of a vision board may seem far-fetched. But here is the thing, motivation in life is not something that just happens. It is a feeling we choose to create for ourselves. If you have big dreams, you need to keep yourself motivated to achieve them. That is exactly what a vision board is there for. Here are 3 reasons why everyone needs a vision board:
1. Focus & Clarity
A vision board helps to keep you on track with all your goals. Life can sometimes get hectic and with so much happening at the same time it is easy lose focus. Looking at your vision board daily can help you stay focused and make the right decisions to materialize your dream future.
2. Source of Positivity
A vision board is a great way to stay enthusiastic and chase away doubt. We all have had those days when we feel like our lives are aimless. Designing a vision board can create so many positive emotions in you and give you the boost you need to wake up and shake things up in your life.
3. Visualize Opportunities
Imagine your life as a project and your vision board as a plan of how to realize that project. This plan guides you and keeps you on track with the most important things in your life so that you do not lose any of the great opportunities that come your way. It is often said that success is when opportunity meets preparation. So your vision board helps you navigate your life prepared and capable to turn the opportunities that come your way into success.
How to create a powerful vision board
Getting a daily reminder of what your goals are will inspire you to always find ways to achieve them. That is why a vision board is such a great tool. To create a powerful vision board, you need to think of all the positive things and people in your life and center your board on that.
Think of your objectives for the next year, and create a list. They could be career, relationship, or personal goals. Write them down on a list. It is best to create separate boards for each category.
Find pictures that reflect the feelings, experiences, and material things you want from the universe. It could be pictures of you, your loved ones, or pictures cut out from magazines or downloaded from the internet. It really could be anything a piece of cloth, a button, etc that brings you a feeling of joy and positivity. The most important thing is one look at them should make you say “Yes this is what I want”.
Finally, include words of affirmation, your best quotes, inspirational words, or thoughts that make you feel great and keep you going. Your vision board should bring you happiness and build in you the want for positive change each time you look at it. Think of it as a daily shot of happiness.
3 famous successful vision board stories
Many of the most successful and inspirational people in the world attest that using vision boards in achieving their goals actually works. Here are 3 vision board success stories you absolutely need to know.
1. Jack Canfield
Jack Canfield is an American author, motivational speaker, corporate trainer and entrepreneur. He equally is an expert on vision boards.
His first vision board was a $100 bill he attached to a paper, traced and to which he added zeroes to make $100,000. He then nailed it to his ceiling. Every morning he would wake up and visualize the $100,000 lifestyle he wanted. Within 30 days he began having $100,000 ideas for the first time of his life. Within a year he started earning $ 92,000. That was his great break through to success.
After that his wife suggested he tried the same technique with a million dollars. He repeated the exact same process but this time with a million dollar bill. A few years later he received his first million dollar check from royalties for the first Chicken Soup for the Soul book which was going to be the first of a series.
For Jack, looking at your vision board helps program the subconscious mind to find solutions to open up the doors to see resources and opportunities. You start attracting the people and resources you need through the law of attraction. Jack hangs his vision board at the back of his bedroom door and carries a foldable version in his car during his travels.
2. Oprah Winfrey
Oprah is one of the most influential and wealthy figures today in the world. She is the host of the highest-rated chat show program ever. She owns her own magazine and is described as the most significant black philanthropist in American history. In a few words Oprah is a great manifestor and achiever.
She comes from humble beginnings and worked her way to the top. Like Jack Canfield, she strongly believes in the law of attraction and methods to achieve a positive future. Oprah is such a master of vision boards that today she is capable of building mental vision boards that guide her to success.
One of the most incredible vision board experiences from Oprah was the board she created for the election of Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential elections. After a meeting with Michelle Obama and a group of other ladies she created a dream board with a picture of Barack as well as the dress she wanted to wear at the inauguration.
Oprah today gives a master class on how to create powerful vision boards to achieve financial, career and personal development goals.
3. Steve Harvey
Steve Harvey is a successful American comedian, TV presenter, author and motivational speaker. He is one of the strongest believers in vision boards and there is a reason why.
When Harvey was in sixth grade, during a class assignment his teacher asked them to write down what they wanted to be in future. Harvey wrote he wanted to be on TV. When she saw what he had written, she called him at the front of the class, chastised him for writing something so unreasonable and sent him home later that day with a note pending on him.
His mom later informed his dad of his behavior at school. His dad did not see anything unreasonable about his son wanting to be on TV . He then advised Steve to write down what it is that he wanted to be, keep it in his bedside drawer. He asked him to read it every morning when he woke up from sleep and every night before going to bed. That was his first vision board experience and it is needless to say it was a huge success. Over the years Steve has created vision boards for every purpose.
As a religious person one of his favorite bible quotes is:
“Write the vision and make it plain. So he who reads it will run to it, and even though it will tarry, wait for it. For surely it will come at an appointed time.”Habakkuk 2:2
He is constantly thinking of ways to attract what he desires for him and his family and teaching others how to do same.
